Woman arrested after allegedly attacking nurse at hospital

A nurse in the Jefferson Regional Medical Center Emergency Room was injured when she was attacked by a woman that was brought in by ambulance.

Jeneice Kinlaw, 23, allegedly attacked the nurse after she was released from restraints after refusing treatment, Detective Jeremy Oswalt said in a probable cause affidavit presented Monday in district court.

Reading from that affidavit, Deputy Prosecutor Nicole Pugh said Kinlaw was “irate” when she was brought in and had to be restrained. When she refused treatment, hospital personnel removed the restraints, and Kinlaw allegedly attacked the nurse.

Sgt. James Woodfield, who was working part-time at the hospital, helped to restrain Kinlaw after the incident, Oswalt said in the affidavit.

Pugh said the nurse received multiple scratches to her neck and chest area.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $10,000 bond for Kinlaw on Monday after ruling prosecutors had probable cause to charge her with second-degree battery.

Kinlaw said she would hire her own attorney.
