Woman, 69, killed in blaze at home

A 69-year-old woman was found dead in a house fire early Monday morning at 1307 S. Cypress St., according to authorities.

Fire crews went to the scene at 3:04 a.m. for a “house fire with entrapment,” according to the Pine Bluff Fire and Emergency Services Department.

The woman’s husband had gotten out of the home before firefighters arrived and reported that his wife was still inside the residence.

When fire personnel arrived, the fire was in the front room. Firefighters began a search of the house and located the victim, later identified by the Jefferson County coroner’s office as Sandra Townsend.

They quickly removed the woman from the home and she was pronounced dead. The cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation. The woman’s body has been transferred to the state Medical Examiner’s office for an autopsy.
