The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team won all three matches at the Union University Invitational in Jackson, Tenn., over the weekend.
Following a 4-set win over Florida’s Edward Waters University on Friday, UAM beat North Carolina’s Catawba College and Missouri’s Southwest Baptist University, each in four sets. UAM (4-3), which has won four matches in a row, is enjoying its best start before a home opener since the 2021 Cotton Blossoms won five.
UAM beat Catawba 27-25, 20-25, 25-20, 25-14. Natalie White led the Blossoms with 16 kills and Jasmine Wells struck 15 and added 10 digs. Mia Smalls assisted in 31 attacks.
The Blossoms beat Southwest Baptist 22-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-23. White led with 19 kills, Small totaled 33 assists and Bruna Silva recorded 14 digs.
“I’m so proud of how we played this weekend,” UAM Coach Arlicia Ortiz said in a news release. “The girls fought long and hard. No game, set, or point was easy. There were a lot of in-game adjustments we had to make, but at the end of the day, it took grit and teamwork. Every number on the roster contributed to our success. The community in Monticello is extremely supportive and loving of this team, and we can’t wait to use this momentum to defend Steelman.”
UAM will host UA-Pine Bluff at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Steelman Fieldhouse.
