The Willing Workers of White Hall Extension Homemakers’ Club met at the White Hall Library in July. Secretary Jo Ann Carr presented the program on “Getting Ready for the Fair.” President Karen Needler welcomed everyone and asked Jay Needler to bless the food, a pot-luck taco meal, according to a news release.

The Thought of the Month was read by Tonia Dalby: Celebrate not just what you have done, but how you have improved. Vice President Dee Kindrick led the members in the Homemaker’s Creed. Elizabeth Wall read the Handy Hint: One of the best ways to take in all that the county fair has to offer is to show up early.

Jim Wilson read the Inspiration from Ecclesiastes 3:1. Carr called the roll, with members answering the question: Are you planning to enter items in the fair? Twelve members were present and one guest, Mary Ann Kizer, adviser for the Jefferson County Extension Homemakers Clubs.

Kindrick, Sarah Payton, Penny Scholes, and Jim and Kathy Wilson were all recognized for having perfect attendance for the last year.

During Carr’s presentation on “Getting Ready for the Fair,” she went over the general rules for all the home economics exhibits and the rules for each department.

Carr explained how to fill out the registration sheet for each department and the tags to be placed on each item entered. Members were given copies of the registration sheets and tags. Everyone was encouraged to enter items.

Home economics and horticulture individual educational exhibit forms and entry tags are available at the Jefferson County Cooperative Extension Office, 500 S. Idaho St. Entries will be accepted Sept. 22 from 2-6 p.m. at Hestand Stadium Fairgrounds, 420 N. Blake St.

Kay Cromwell, community service chairman, reported she had delivered 20 boxes of cereal to White Hall Food Pantry and nine backpacks and about 100 items to Neighbor to Neighbor after the June meeting. Members decided White Hall Food Pantry would be its main community service project for 2024-25, with flour, sugar and oil being the main items, with cake mix and canned icing for the holidays.

Kathy Wilson, continuing education chairman, reminded members of the club trip to Sheridan this month.

Wall, leadership development chairman, read an article, “Tacos.”

Kizer presented first-place awards to members of the club’s Walk Across Arkansas Team, Sarah Payton and her husband, Dale, Carr, Scholes, Karen and Jay Needler, Dalby, Wall and Kindrick.

Upcoming events include the county picnic on Aug. 24 at Pursuit Church.

The next meeting of Willing Workers of White Hall EHC will be Aug. 27 at 6:30 p.m. at the White Hall Library. If anyone is interested in attending the meeting, they may contact any member of the club or Mary Ann Kizer, Jefferson County Extension Family & Consumer Sciences agent, at the Extension Service, (870) 534-1033.
