Willing Workers of White Hall Extension Homemakers Club met Oct. 22 at the White Hall Library.
President Karen Needler welcomed everyone and asked Jim Wilson to bless the food. Members had a meal of broccoli soup, salad and desserts provided by Tonia Dalby, Kathy Wilson and Vice President Dee Kindrick.
Kindrick led members in the Homemaker’s Creed. Penny Scholes read the Thought of the Month: A creative plate makes a pleasant palate. Dalby read the Handy Hint: A sharp knife is a safe knife. Jim Wilson read the inspiration from Matthew 13:33. Secretary Jo Ann Carr called the roll with members answering the question: Do you own a knife sharpener?
Elizabeth Wall, leadership development leader, read an article on kitchen hacks. One was: Polish a stainless steel sink with flour. If you have a stainless steel sink, the best thing to clean it with is already in you cabinet: flour! Wash and dry the sink, sprinkle the whole thing with flour, then get to polishing. You’ll be surprised at how sparkly the metal gets.
Kathy Wilson, continuing education chairman, suggested the club plan another outing to the museum at Sheridan. This was scheduled for Nov. 9.

Kay Cromwell, community service chairman, reported 30 items were delivered to the White Hall Food Pantry last month. Dolls and caps for Arkansas Children’s Hospital and blankets for the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences are to be brought to the November meeting along with food pantry items.
Dalby presented the program on food sculpturing. She had made a rose flower arrangement out of green onions and red tomatoes with a sculpted cucumber in the vase. She demonstrated how to make the roses and used rosemary as greenery in the vase. She also had a parrot sculpted out of a pineapple and showed how to make spiral cucumbers and homemade crinkle-cut potatoes, along with several other things including pumpkin-shaped bread using a cookie cutter.
Needler encouraged members to buy pecans and double-dipped chocolate-covered peanuts that Extension Homemakers are selling. She also mentioned events: Nov. 4, leader training and board meeting were held; and Nov. 8, Holiday Foods Event was held.
Next month, the program will be “What Does a Healthy Meal Look like?” We meet at the White Hall Library the fourth Tuesday night of each month. If you are interested in coming to a meeting, please contact any member or call Mary Ann Kizer at the Jefferson County Cooperative Extension Service at (870) 534-1033.
