LEXINGTON, Ky. — Arkansas-Pine Bluff’s women’s basketball team committed 49 turnovers in a 101-43 loss to Kentucky on Sunday afternoon. The Lady Lions dropped to 0-7 with the loss.
The turnover count is a record for a Kentucky opponent, while UAPB was only able to force 10 Wildcats turnovers. Kentucky converted UAPB’s miscues into 66 points.
The Lady Lions were led by Chi Chi Okwumabua, who had 13 points. She also had three rebounds and two assists.
But Okwumabua, along with Amber Haggie, reached double-digits in turnovers, with 10 each.
Jenise Gentry, Corredur Vaden and Okwumabua also fouled out of the game, as UAPB was whistled for 32 team fouls compared to 16 for Kentucky.

Before the game, coach Cary Shelton said that the Lady Lions would have to limit their opponents’ opportunities at the free-throw line. Kentucky converted 32 of 44 free throws, which were more than the 31 of 41 posted by Marquette in the previous game.
UAPB did have a better shooting percentage than Kentucky, making 14 of 33 field goal attempts. Kentucky made 29 of 73 shots. The Lady Lions also won the rebounding category 32-30, but allowed 19 offensive rebounds.
Bria Goss and Keyla Snowden each had 19 points to lead the Wildcats. Samantha Drake (13 points), Bernisha Pinkett (11) and Azia Bishop (10) also reached double-figures for Kentucky.
Every player who saw action for Kentucky scored, and eight of the 10 players recorded at least one steal.
The game was the seventh of the Lady Lions’ eight-game road stretch to begin the season. That opening slate concludes Wednesday with a trip to Texas for an 11 a.m. tip-off.
On Sunday, the Lady Lions host Arizona for a 1 p.m. game.
