CABOT — JoviOne Bailey scored 20 points and helped Watson Chapel weather a late charge by Wynne to pick up a 58-52 boys basketball victory Tuesday in the first round of the Cabot Pre-Holiday Tournament.
Watson Chapel (2-0) led by as many as 16 points, but Wynne pulled within three points late in the game.
“We made a lot of free throws and played with intensity,” Watson Chapel coach Matt Busch said. “The kids, I’m awful proud of them.”
Watson Chapel will play Benton or England at 8:30 p.m. Thursday in the semifinal round.

CABOT — The Lady Wildcats fell in the first round of the Cabot Pre-holiday Basketball Tournament, dropping their record to 2-2 this year. Kamera Bozeman led Watson Chapel with 11 points.
Next for Watson Chapel will be a 4 p.m. Thursday game against the loser of today’s game between England and Jessieville.
McGehee 58, DeWitt 45
McGEHEE — The Lady Owls took advantage of opportunities created by their defense and overcame trailing 24-22 at halftime to beat the Lady Dragons in their 8-4A Conference opener.
“We had a few problems in our press and we adjusted that at halftime,” McGehee coach Karen Broughton said. “We started to get steals out of our press.”
McGehee (3-1) was led by Monie Stinyard with 14 points, followed by Brittany Lee with 13 and Callie Beasley with 12.
Fordyce 41, Dollarway 8
In Pine Bluff, the Lady Bugs (4-2) held the Lady Cardinals (0-5) scoreless in the second and fourth periods and dominated their former 8-4A Conference foes.
Freshman Lacie Hulse scored 12 points to lead the Lady Bugs, and Madison Adams added eight. Jacqueline Rice scored four points to lead Dollarway.
