Wildcats fall in clutch

PARAGOULD — Watson Chapel’s season ended with a 54-49 loss to Beebe in the first round of the Class 5A state tournament Wednesday.

T.J. Handley led Watson Chapel (14-14) with 29 points and JoviOne Bailey added 12, but the Wildcats could not keep their three-point halftime lead in the loss.

“There were a couple of charge calls (on us) that were close late, and a call or two goes our way late and it could be different,” Watson Chapel coach Matt Busch said. “Just came down to a play or two and they executed.”

Busch said he was proud of his team’s effort.

“That wasn’t our best ball game, and if we would’ve played our best, we would’ve kept going,” he said. “But our kids played extremely tough and they should be proud.”
