Wideout leaves Hogs

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas wide receiver Kane Whitehurst has been granted a release from his scholarship.

The redshirt freshman is the third player to receive his release this spring, joining receiver Quinta Funderburk and linebacker Brock Haman. Whitehurst was not with the team for most of the spring after being arrested for marijuana possession on April 1.

Whitehurst, an Alpharetta, Ga., native, was a third-team receiver on the depth chart entering spring practice behind Cobi Hamilton and Maudrecus Humphrey. He returned to receiver after working at defensive back during Arkansas’ preparation for the Cotton Bowl.
