The White Hall Willing Workers met recently at the White Hall Public Library.
President Cheri Aronowitz welcomed members and a guest and opened the meeting. She read the Thought for the Month: Make copies of important papers (wills, birth certificates, car titles, etc) but don’t file the original and copy together. She also read the handy hint: Designate one area for all your papers. The inspiration for the month was given by Sue Medlock from Proverbs 15:22 – Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers, they succeed.
Roll call was presented to the question: “Where do you store your important papers?”
The program was presented by Sarah Payton on “Organizing Papers”. The group played a matching game and was required to match an item with how long to keep that item. For instance: retail receipts – debt should be kept long enough to verify on bank statements; car titles should be kept for as long as you own the car; birth certificates should be kept permanently and newspapers should be discarded (or recycled) immediately after reading.
The group also learned to organize papers into four categories: Active, Keepers, VIPs and Discards. Active papers are those items that need attention such as bills to be paid; Keepers are things you want or need to keep such as tax documents or home improvement expenses; VIPs are very important papers, such as birth certificates; Discards are things that need to be recycled or thrown away.
