White Hall falls in soccer final

SHERIDAN — White Hall recorded a pair of soccer wins in the Sheridan Shootout on Saturday before dropping the championship game to Arkadelphia.

White Hall blanked host Sheridan 2-0 in the opener and Sylvan Hills 3-0 before falling 2-0 to Arkadelphia.

Kinzey Kight scored White Hall’s initial goal against Sheridan with a header at the 14-minute mark to put the Bulldogs up 1-0 in the first half then picked up the assist at the 9-minute mark in the second half as Jordan Lawson netted the second goal. Cody Jones threw the shutout in goal with 10 saves.

Jones recorded his fourth consecutive shutout in the win over Sylvan Hills with four saves.

Lawson put the Bulldogs on top with a shot from the 15-yard mark 5 minutes into the affair and banged one into the net from the same distance at the 14-minute mark of the second half to put the Dogs up 2-0. Kight booted one in from 20-yards out at the 38th minute in the second half to close the scoring.

White Hall suffered its first loss of the season in the title match against Arkadelphia, which scored a goal in each half.

Warren drops title game

at SEARK Slugfest

MONTICELLO — Waren picked up wins against Dollarway and Norphlet in the SEARK Slugfest, but couldn’t lay claim to the championship of the tournament as the Lumberjacks fell to Hamburg in the title game.

The Lumberjacks opened Saturday’s pool play with a 5-4 win over Dollarway. Justin Hall picked up the win in relief of Logan Adams, working one inning of the three-inning affair.

Troy Sellers singled twice and drove in a run for Warren and scored the winning run by stealing home in the bottom of the third to break a 4-4 deadlock. It was Sellers’ fifth stolen base of the game.

Warren advanced to the title game with a 7-1 over Norphlet in the final pool-play game at Drew Central. Adams recorded the complete-game win on the mound, surrendering three hits and striking out nine.

Jones singled twice and drove in four runs to pace the Lumberjacks at the plate. Hall singled, doubled and scored twice while Adams, Sellers and Randy Gorman each had singles.

In the championship game at Monticello, Warren jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but produced no more offense as Hamburg eased to a 7-1 win.

Hall absorbed the loss on the mound as the Lumberjacks fell to 3-2. Hall singled and scored, Jones drove in a run with a double and Noah Leco singled for Warren.
