White Hall boys soccer dominates Paragould

Class 5A Boys

White Hall 4, Paragould 0

NORTH LITTLE ROCK — White Hall had 22 shots on goal and controlled the tempo against Paragould in a 4-0 win in the first round of the state tournament on Thursday.

Paragould had just four shots on goal and Cody Jones had the shutout for White Hall (16-3). Garrett Griffith, Shareif Shelton, Will Tietz and Inez Valdes helped keep Paragould out of its offensive zone for a majority of the game.

Jordan Lawson scored at the 25-minute mark for White Hall’s first goal, and a minute later, the Bulldogs got another score on an own goal by Paragould.

In the second half, Tommy Townsend scored on a shot from five yards out and Ruben Zamora put a shot in the back of the net from 18 feet out.

White Hall plays at 2 p.m. today against Harrison.

Class 5A Girls

White Hall 2, Vilonia 1

NORTH LITTLE ROCK — White Hall built a 2-0 lead and held on for a 2-1 win over Vilonia on Thursday in the first round of the state tournament.

White Hall goalie Ally Stewart came off injured reserve and made 10 saves in the win.

White Hall (11-6) had 10 shots on goal and five shots that went wide. The Lady Bulldogs scored a goal each in the first and second half with Maria Ramirez scored both goals.

White Hall plays at noon today against Little Rock Christian.

Class 6A Boys

Mountain Home 4, Pine Bluff 0

MOUNTAIN HOME — Mountain Home scored all of its goals in the first half to beat Pine Bluff 4-0, ending the Zebras’ season with the first-round win.

Mountain Home had 30 shots on goal and Pine Bluff goalie Aubrey Walker made 26 saves to earn a spot on the All-Tournament team. Pine Bluff (3-12) had 16 shots on goal.

Class 6A Girls

Sheridan 8, Marion 0

MOUNTAIN HOME — Wynn Welch knocked in two goals during a 7-0 first half for the Lady Jackets (13-6-1), who advanced to play host Mountain Home at 2 p.m. today.

Welch scored her goals in the fifth and 20th minutes. Carly Curry, Heather Barter, Kinsey Marsh, Natalie Kirkpatrick and Autumn Clark contributed to the first-half assault, and Catalina Woest added a goal in the second half.

Laura Clinton made four saves and recorded her 10th shutout of the season.
