Pine Bluff Fire and Emergency Services Department is investigating a pair of weekend structure fires, including a blaze at Dollar General at 3100 S. Olive St.
The fires caused property damage but no injuries, Fire Chief Shawn Howell said Monday.
“The Dollar General had a fire that was reported at 2:32 Saturday afternoon,” Howell said. “All contents of the store were a total loss due to smoke and fire damage. The store was open for business at the time and there were employees and customers present but there were no injuries.”
The fire is still under investigation, according to Howell.
“It is still an ongoing case and we are not sure of the direction it will take,” Howell said when asked if the department suspected arson.
Independent reporting for Pine Bluff & Jefferson County since 1879.
Tawn Earnest, senior director for corporate communications with Dollar General, said that due to the extensive damage sustained by the Pine Bluff store, the employees will need to be reassigned.
“We are working on transferring the employees to nearby Dollar General stores,” Earnest said.
Residential fire
A residential fire Friday afternoon damaged a mobile home.
“A fire at a house trailer at 6609 W. Jones Friday afternoon resulted in heavy fire damage throughout the trailer,” Howell said. “The structure was fully involved when firefighters arrived. There were no injuries.”
Howell said that the fire is still under investigation by the department.
