The Watson Chapel School Board approved several personnel matters Monday night at its regular monthly meeting.
Superintendent Danny Hazelwood’s current three-year employment contract, originally scheduled to end on July 1, 2014, was extended to July 1, 2015. Hazelwood’s present salary of $122,478 per year will remain unchanged.
The board also approved Hazelwood’s staff recommendations including hiring Amanda Kirkpatrick as a cafeteria worker; Terrick Robinson as a full time custodian; and Ramone Penister and Cameron Wright as part time custodians.
The board also approved the December financial report, which showed $2,608,375.90 received and $2,199,615.48 spent for an ending balance of $7,805,183.19.
In other business, board member Robin Barker reported on a national contest the Watson Chapel Junior High School Beta Club won.

“I was informed by the school district’s technology director, Brenda Sharpmack, that the junior high school Beta Club won a nationwide anti-bullying contest that had over 1,000 entries,” Barker said. “They submitted a 90 second video entitled ‘Never Surrender to Bullying’ and won a flip camera that will be kept in the library for anyone to use.”
Hazelwood also recognized the work of the Watson Chapel School Board, acknowledging that January is Arkansas School Board Member Recognition Month.
“Our board members are not paid for what they do but they put a lot of time in and don’t get recognized enough for what they do,” Hazelwood said.
