Watson Chapel put up a fight in the first quarter Friday night but it wasn’t enough as they fell to the Pulaski Academy Bruins 51-14. The Wildcats led 14-8 after the opening frame, but PA retook the lead in the second and never looked back.
The Bruins took the opening kickoff and drove 66 yards and Nolen Bruffett found John David White for a 28-yard touchdown. The two-point conversion pass gave PA an 8-0 lead. Chapel responded by going on a four-play, 53-yard drive to pull within two on a 10-yard Devin Curry run. The conversion attempt failed, but Watson Chapel (2-6-1, 1-5) would took a brief on the ensuing drive after causing the Bruins to turn the ball over on downs. Quashawn Jermon capped the drive with a one-yard run, and Curry added the conversion run to give the ‘Cats their only lead of the game at 14-8. Braden Bratcher gave the Bruins the lead for good on a two-yard run, and Clay James added the PAT for a 15-14 lead. Bratcher found Nate Cumming for a 28-yard touchdown to put PA up 22-14 at the half.
Bratcher threw three more touchdowns in the second half. He found Razorback commit Hudson Henry with a 27-yard score. He added a 30-yard pass to White, and a 15-yard scoring toss to Merritt Jones. Bratcher finished the night with 310 yards passing and four touchdowns. Izarius Woods finished the scoring with 1:46 to go in the game on a 20-yard run. Pulaski Academy (8-1, 6-0) finished the night with 476 yards of total offense, compared to 220 for the ‘Cats. Chapel did not complete a pass Friday, while throwing two interceptions. Javarious Brown led the way on the ground for Chapel with 79 yards on nine attempts.
Watson Chapel will finish the season next Friday as they host the Maumelle Hornets for senior night at Wildcat Stadium. Maumelle is coming off an 87-63 loss to Little Rock Christian on Friday night. The game can be heard locally on 98.1, the Hog.
