Warren sets Pink Tomato Festival events

There are several events associated with the upcoming 59th annual Bradley County Pink Tomato Festival.

The 5K Race will be held on Saturday, June 13. The 5K walk begins at 7 a.m., with the run beginning at 7:30 a.m. Race day registration and the packet pick-up table will be located in the parking lot on the west side of First State Bank from 6-6:45 a.m. The entry fee is $25 in advance and $30 on race day. Awards will be presented to the first-place male and female finishers. All participants, runners and walkers, will qualify for first-, second- or third-place awards in the following age categories: 14-24, 25-34, 35-44, 45-54, 55-64 and 65 and up. Participants who sign up as walkers must walk the entire course. Any walker violating this rule will not be eligible for awards. Times will be called at the 1- and 2-mile markers and water will be provided midway through the race.

The arts and crafts show will be June 12-13 and will include woodworks, jewelry, embroidery, baby items and more. Crafters will be selling 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in the Arts and Crafts building on Myrtle Street next to Mollys.

The talent show will be 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 9, at the Warren Cultural Center. It is for ages 4 to 18. The entry fee is $20 for individuals and group and an additional $5 for every group member after four. The categories are: dance, vocal, instrumental and variety. Songs must be no longer than three-and-a-half minutes, including introduction. Admission is $4. The deadline for entry is June 3.

The Mad Butcher/Pink Tomato Festival Steak Cook-Off will be Saturday, June 13. This contest is sanctioned by the Steak Cook-Off Association. The cookers will be cooking 16-oz black Angus ribeyes. The entry fee for the competition is $125. There will also be an appetizer division of this competition, with an entry fee of $25. The steaks will be sold for $20 to the general public. There will be a total of $2,250 in prize money.

The Petite and Pre-Teen Pageant will be 6 p.m. Saturday, June 6. The Petite competition is for ages 6-8 as of the date of the pageant. Pre-Teen is for ages 9-12. All contestants must reside in one of the following counties: Ashley, Bradley, Dallas, Drew, Calhoun, Cleveland, Lincoln or Union. Pageant attire is either a Sunday or a formal dress. Judges will be looking for age-appropriate attire. There will be an optional photogenic competition. The photos must be 5-by-7 or 8-by-10 inches and be color or black-and-white. Photos must be turned in with entry forms. The entry fee is $25 per contestant for the pageant, $30 for the pageant and photogenic competition. The entry deadline is Friday, May 29.

The Teen and Miss Pink Tomato pageants will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 6. The Teen competition is for ages 13-16 as of the date of the pageant. All contestants must reside in one of the following counties: Ashley, Bradley, Dallas, Drew, Calhoun, Cleveland, Lincoln or Union. Miss is for ages 17-21. All entries must be accompanied with a photo. The photos must be 5-by-7 or 8-by-10 inches and be color or black-and-white. The entry fee is $35 per contestant. The entry deadline Friday, May 29.

There is also a pageant for 4- and 5-year-old contestants. All contestants must reside in one of the following counties: Ashley, Bradley, Dallas, Drew, Calhoun, Cleveland, Lincoln or Union. The pageant will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, June 13. The entry deadline is Friday, June 5.
