LAKE CHARLES, La. — McNeese State’s Blake Ware retired 16 straight batters and held Arkansas-Pine Bluff to two hits in a complete-game, 2-0 victory Saturday to clinch the three-game series for the Cowboys.
Ware also struck out six batters.
Jim Ploeger (1-1) took his first loss of the season, allowing both runs on six hits with four strikeouts for UAPB (2-5), which has lost three in a row.
McNeese State (2-3) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Lucas Quary RBI single with two outs. Chayse Marion made it 2-0 in the fifth when hit a one-run single to right field.
From that point, Ware allowed no hits.

UAPB had a strong defensive effort in the bottom of the eighth, turning in three straight caught-stealing plays to end the frame.
Dwayne Hysmith and Isias Alcantar had the only hits for UAPB.
