Jefferson County residents may still register to vote in advance of the political party primary election.
Jefferson County Deputy Clerk Katherine Wooldridge said voters may come to the Jefferson County Courthouse at 101 W. Barraque St. between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays through Monday, Feb. 1, and complete an Arkansas Voter Registration Application. The office stays open during lunch.
Wooldridge said voters do not need to show identification.
Voters may pick up applications for themselves and fill them out. People are also allowed to pick up and drop off an application on behalf of someone else, but the voter in question must fill out the form themselves and sign it, Wooldridge said.
Voters must write their name, address, date of birth and phone number on the application. They must also answer “Yes” or “No” to questions about whether they are at least 18 years of age, an American citizen and Arkansas resident, whether they are presently adjudged mentally incompetent by a court and whether they have ever been convicted of a felony. The person must sign their name attesting that the information they have provided is true. A person who provides false information risks a fine of $10,000 and imprisonment of 10 years.

Early voting will take place from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, to Friday Feb. 19; and Monday, Feb. 22, to Friday, Feb 26.; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, and Saturday, Feb. 27; and 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 29.
People who are unsure of their voting status may log onto www.voterview.org and click on “registration information” and follow the prompts.
Those who are registered in another Arkansas county have until Friday, Feb. 26, to transfer their voting status to Jefferson County, Wooldridge said. But they must have a status of active or inactive, not removed.
“If you do not vote for two federal elections, chances are you are removed, meaning you are ineligible,” Wooldridge said.
In-person voting will be Tuesday, March 1.
