United Way of Southeast Arkansas shared an update on its programs held during the year.

Supporters often ask “How do you measure real impact, not just numbers?”

“It’s true — statistics tell part of the story, but they don’t capture the whole picture,” United Way Executive Director Jason Duren said in a news release. “We track outcomes carefully, but we never lose sight of the human stories behind them. Numbers show progress. Stories show transformation.”

The United Way’s mission is rooted in collective giving and community involvement, making the agency a vital resource for fostering strength and hope, according to the release.

“This Christmas, we aim to support vulnerable populations, promote community resilience, and provide essential services to those facing socio-economic challenges. With compassion, empathy, and a commitment to community welfare, we can create a brighter future for all,” Duren said.

This year’s “Day of Caring” was successful, thanks to the dedication of the community and local businesses. Here’s what was accomplished:

Volunteer participation:

Approximately 200 volunteers came together to serve southeast Arkansas.

Volunteers included individuals from all major local companies, such as Simmons Bank, FBT, Southeast Arkansas College, Central Moloney, DeltaPlex Radio Station, and Jefferson Regional Medical Center, city of Pine Bluff, and Clean and Beautiful Commission.

Projects and locations:

Cleanup efforts: Volunteers tackled four specific locations across the area that needed attention due to illegal dumping, making a significant impact on the cleanliness and beauty of the community.

“Rainbow Bridge” at the animal shelter: Volunteers built a Rainbow Bridge at the Pine Bluff Animal Control — a special memorial for deceased pets, providing a meaningful tribute and comfort to the community.

Educational garden at Edgewood Elementary School: Teams planted an educational garden both inside and outside of Edgewood Elementary, giving students hands-on learning opportunities and beautifying the campus.

NEIGHBOR TO NEIGHBOR ANNUAL IMPACT

Neighbor to Neighbor in Pine Bluff is dedicated to fighting hunger in the community. Each year, they make a significant difference through their various food programs:

Hot Meals Served: Neighbor to Neighbor typically serves more than 60,000 hot meals annually through their soup kitchen program.

Food Pantry Support: Their food pantry provides groceries to families in need, reaching more than 10,000 individuals each year.

UNITED WAY’S CHRISTMAS IN THE BLUFF

“This year’s Christmas in the Bluff event was a shining example of community partnership, with United Way of Southeast Arkansas joining forces with several local organizations to make the holiday season brighter for area children,” according to the release.

The success of the event was made possible with several supporters: Turning Point Youth Center, The House of Deborah, Area Agency on Aging of Southeast Arkansas, and Pine Bluff Fire and Emergency Services Department.

WORKING TOGETHER FOR CHILDREN

These organizations partnered with United Way to coordinate donations, organize gift drives, and ensure that more than 500 children in Pine Bluff and surrounding communities received gifts this holiday season:

Turning Point Youth Center and The House of Deborah helped identify families in need and provided volunteers to wrap and distribute gifts.

Area Agency on Aging supported intergenerational holiday cheer, helping connect youth and seniors.

Pine Bluff Fire Department not only contributed to the gift drive but also helped deliver gifts and spreading holiday joy.

THANK YOU

“United Way extends its deepest gratitude to every partner, volunteer, and donor. This collaboration is a testament to the power of unity — showing what can be achieved when organizations come together to serve their community. Thanks to everyone’s efforts, hundreds of children experienced the joy of the season, and the true spirit of giving shone brightly in Pine Bluff,” according to the news release.
