Jim Caldwell, executive director of United Way of Southeast Arkansas, has nearly 50 years of experience as a community fundraiser.
Along his paths, he’s learned a lot about people, and that’s why he’s confident that the United Way’s extended 2011 Fall Campaign goal of $1.275 million will soon be met.
“I would rather do what I do in Pine Bluff than any other town in Arkansas,” Caldwell said Friday. “The people here are very caring and want to do the right thing in helping others.
“A vein of goodness runs through this community. You can count on people here, even in challenging economic times.”
Caldwell said that as of Friday, the campaign is at 90 percent of its targeted total. He boasted that thus far, the on-going fund drive is counting “more increases than decreases” in amounts given by donors of previous campaigns. “That’s a positive,” he said.
Independent reporting for Pine Bluff & Jefferson County since 1879.
Caldwell believes United Way campaigns and support efforts illustrate the strength of community commitment and action.
“We appreciate everyone involved with the United Way of Southeast Arkansas and the 26 agencies we serve,” he related. “And, of course, we especially appreciate the donors.
“Those 26 agencies have made commitments of service, and we’ve made commitments to them. Now we need our donors who gave last year to give again.”
Pine Bluff National Bank Vice President Scott Pittillo is chairman of the current campaign.
