LITTLE ROCK —Democrat Gene Jeffress and Republican John Cowart have received the endorsement of the state’s largest union in the 4th District’s Congressional races.
The Arkansas AFL-CIO announced its endorsements Monday for the party primaries.
Jeffress, a state senator from Louann, faces lawyer Q. Byrum Hurst of Hot Springs and D.C. Morrison of Little Rock for the Democratic nomination for the 4th District seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Mike Ross, D-Prescott.
Cowart, of Texarkana, faces Tom Cotton of Dardanelle and Beth Anne Rankin of Magnolia for the GOP nomination.
The union also endorsed Scott Ellington in the 1st District’s Democratic primary.
Ellington, the Craighead County prosecutor, faces state Rep. Clark Hall of Marvell and Arkansas State University economics professor Gary Latanich for the Democratic nomination to challenge incumbent Rep. Rick Crawford, R-Jonesboro, in the November general election.
The AFL-CIO also endorsed two unopposed Democrats in the other two congressional district — Herb Rule in the 2nd and Ken Aden in the 3rd — to face incumbent Republicans in the fall.
