UDC holds memorial service for late members

The David O. Dodd Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy met at Graceland Cemetery for a Memorial Service and Marker Dedication for Susan Crain Railsback and Mary Edith “Edie” Railsback Gill, deceased members of the Chapter. Railsback and Dill had been active members, holding offices in the local chapter, and in the state and national divisions.

The Memorial Service began with Chaplain, Marjo Dill reading the Invocation. DeeLois Lawrence read the obituaries and a tribute to Railsback and Dill. The ritual was led by President, Lela R. Murray, with the members and guests responding.

The Grave Marker Dedication was led by President Murray. Chaplain Dill gave a Scripture reading and a prayer. The members and guests joined in reciting “The Lord’s Prayer.” The grave marker was unveiled by Dabney Railsback, daughter of Susan Crain Railsback, and sister of Mary Edith “Edie” Railsback Gill; and Susan Milton, daughter of Mary Edith “Edie” Railsback Gill, and granddaughter of Susan Crain Railsback.

President Murray placed the Confederate Flag on the graves in memory of Frances Marion Crain and Moses Hullum Hunt, both relatives of Railsback and Gill, who served as a Confederate soldier in the Civil War. A wreath was placed on the graves by Amber Friday-Brown, Division President. The benediction was given by Chaplain Dill.

Members attending in addition to Murray, Dill, Lawrence, Railsback, and Minton, were Jerrie Townsend, Sandy Poore, Sharon Wyatt, Sue Smith, Glennda Fread, Jean Pollard, and Dorothy Wilks. Guests were Amber Friday-Brown and her husband, J. T., Jerry Lawrence, David Poore and several Railsback grandchildren.
