The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men’s golf team earned its first win of the 2024 fall season this week.

UAPB placed first at the Thomas W. Dortch Jr. HBCU Classic, held Sunday through Tuesday at the Stone Mountain Golf Course in Stone Mountain, Ga.

The Golden Lions finished 22 over par after two rounds, 18 strokes better than second place Tennessee State. Alabama A&M finished third, followed by Chicago State, Southern, North Carolina Central and Maryland Eastern Shore.

UAPB sophomore Jules De Reu won the individual championship, shooting an even-par 70 in both rounds. Fellow sophomore Timur Alalin finished second at +6. Jose Berenguel tied for fourth at +7, and freshman Jonathan Baumann placed eighth after shooting +9.

Freshman Juan Melida placed 22nd, and Angel Perez placed 23rd.

The Dortch HBCU Classic was UAPB’s second tournament of the fall. The Golden Lions placed 14th at the Folds of Honor Collegiate Invitational hosted by Michigan State earlier this month.

UAPB has two more tournaments scheduled for this fall. The Golden Lions will play in the SAS Championship HBCU Invitational in Cary, North Carolina, and the Bridgestone HBCU Invitational in Suwanee, Georgia, in October.
