One women’s player and one from the men’s team at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff received All-SWAC basketball recognition, the conference announced Friday.
UAPB junior guard Indiya Bowen was named the women’s SWAC Newcomer of the Year and First Team All-SWAC, while senior men’s guard Quion Williams was named First Team All-SWAC.
Bowen finished the regular season as the SWAC’s scoring leader with 14.9 points per game. Her 1.9 steals per game ranked sixth in the SWAC.
The Horn Lake, Miss., native broke 20 points seven times. She scored a season-high 29 points twice: on Nov. 3 at Memphis and on Jan. 1 at home against Alabama State. She had a season-high nine rebounds against Memphis with eight against Alabama State.
Williams finished fifth in scoring in the SWAC with 17.8 points per game. He had the second-most rebounds with 8.3 per game and the third-most assists at five per game.

The Jonesboro native had nine double-doubles and a triple-double this season. He scored 29 points with 14 rebounds and 18 assists on Dec. 17 against Champion Christian. His season high in points, 31, came Nov. 6 at Portland, while his season high in rebounds, 17, came on Nov. 10 at Texas Southern.
These honors come as the UAPB women finished tied for fifth and the men tied for fourth in the SWAC standings.
Former UAPB Coach Dawn Thornton was named SWAC Coach of the Year after leading Alabama A&M to the regular season title. Former Lady Lion Kaila Walker, now playing for AAMU, won Player of the Year. Nakia Cheatham of Alcorn State won Defensive Player of the Year, and Pierre-Noelle Tcheuhchoua of Jackson State won Freshman of the Year.
Bowen, Walker and Cheatham joined Grambling’s Shaniah Nunn and Texas Southern’s Taliyah Logwood on the First Team. Alabama A&M’s Moses Davenport, another UAPB transfer, joined Southern’s Demya Porter, Florida A&M’s Tahnyjia Purifoy, Prairie View A&M’s Crystal Schultz and Jackson State’s Jaileyah Cotton on the Second Team.
On the men’s side, Bethune-Cookman coach Reggie Theus won Coach of the Year after winning the SWAC title. Daeshun Ruffin of Jackson State won Player of the Year. Jerquarius Stanback of Alabama State won Defensive Player of the year. Michael James of Mississippi Valley State won Newcomer of the Year, and Antonio Munoz of Grambling State won Freshman of the Year.
Williams, Ruffin and James joined Prairie View A&M’s Dontae Horne and Bethune-Cookman’s Jakobi Heady on the First Team. The Second Team consists of Kintavious Dozier of AAMU, Michael Jacobs of Southern, Troy Hupstead of Texas Southern, Daniel Rouzan of Bethune-Cookman and Tai’reon Joseh of Prairie View.
