UAPB/AM&N alumni group ends fundraiser

A fundraising campaign to help displaced University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff students is officially suspended by the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff/AM&N National Alumni Association.

“Our plan to work with UAPB’s Aramark Food Service to help serve warm meals to our students cannot be done,” according to a news release. “This is due to difficulties in complying with CDC guidelines when it comes to catering and using another hotel’s kitchen facilities to prepare the meal.”

The association will use the funds it received to assist students who are experiencing tuition or personal hardship. The group will provide snacks and necessities if their hotel stay continues into next week.

“The UAPB/AM&N National Alumni Association extends a hearty thank you for your outpouring of support,” according to the release.

Prisons to resume visitation at four sites

Secretary of Corrections Solomon Graves announced that beginning March 6 the Arkansas Department of Corrections will resume piloting modified in-person visitation at four facilities.

These are Benton Work Release, Delta Regional Unit, Northeast Arkansas Community Correction Center and Northwest Arkansas Community Correction Center, according to a news release.

The pilot launched in December but was suspended when facilities entered into lockdown status in response to an increase in staff covid-19 cases within the community and among staff.

In-person visits to inmates/residents may be made by pre-approved individuals only. Immediate, adult family members may submit requests for visitation appointments. Rules are available at ar.gov/visitationrules.

After reviewing the new visitation rules, prospective visitors may visit the website: https://telegov.egov.com/docrequest to complete a visitation appointment request form. All requests are pending review and approval by the Arkansas Department of Corrections.
