The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff volleyball program swept the four Southwestern Athletic Conference honors announced by the league on Saturday.
Sophomore Zyonn Smith was named Offensive Player of the Week, sophomore Nyah Ellis was named Newcomer of the Week, sophomore Nikole Akamine was named Setter of the Week, and junior Haley Gomez was named Defensive Player of the Week for their outstanding performances in league competition.
Smith played a big part in UAPB’s three-match winning streak. In the past two victories, over Grambling State and Southern, she combined for 28 kills and 27 digs, with a match-high 19 versus Grambling State. Smith sits at the top of the conference in total points with 125, averaging 4.46 per set.
Gomez, the SWAC block leader, had a total of eight blocks in the past two matches.
Ellis had 22 digs in the 3-0 sweep over Grambling State and had a career-high 36 digs in a 3-1 win over Southern.
Akamine combined for 55 assists in the past two matches for UAPB, including a match-high 33 assists against Southern.
