UAPB victorious in doubleheader

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff softball team finished its six-game home stand with a pair of dominant midweek victories Tuesday afternoon.

UAPB swept a doubleheader against Rust College 12-1 and 22-2 in five innings each at the Torii Hunter Complex.

UAPB (7-15) scored multiple runs in seven of its eight offensive innings against the Bearcats. The Lady Lions scored 6 runs in the first inning of the opening game, then added 3 runs in each of the next two before failing to score in the fourth.

The Lady Lions started game two with a 3-run first inning, then added 8 in the second, 6 in the third and 5 in the fourth.

Rust College (5-20) managed 1 run on 6 hits in the first game against UAPB pitcher Heidi Price (1-4), who struck out four hitters with no walks for her first win of the season. Game two starter Danika Bryant (2-5) held Rust to 1 run on no hits in 1 2/3 innings. Price and Kamea Seunarine pitched the rest of the game, in which the Bearcats managed one hit.

UAPB right fielder Angelina Rivas, coming off hitting 6 for 7 in three games against Grambling State, hit 2 for 3 with 5 RBI and 2 runs in game one, then hit 3 for 4 with an RBI and 3 runs in game two. She hit a 3-run home run in game one.

Designated player Kayla Adams hit 3 for 3 with 3 RBI and 3 runs in game one. In game two, substitute catcher Kaitlyn Neely and left fielder Ariana Gonzalez finished with 4 RBI and 2 runs apiece.

Infielder Lyric Perry hit 2 for 3 with 3 RBI and 3 runs.
