The regular season finale for the Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Mississippi Valley State basketball teams had to wait a day longer after inclement weather struck Mississippi on Thursday.
The winter weather that hit Arkansas on Wednesday night moved down south and into the Mississippi Valley, causing a delay in athletic activities. The games are scheduled to begin today at the Leflore County Civic Center in Greenwood.
The Golden Lions (11-20, 8-9 SWAC) will tipoff at 11 a.m., while the Lady Lions (6-22, 4-13) are scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m. The price of admission is free.
The UAPB women defeated MVSU (4-24, 2-15) by 18 points in their first meeting at H.O. Clemmons Arena, although head coach Nate Kilbert said in an interview that the Devilettes were shorthanded for that match. He also said the Lady Lions will have to play better than they did at home Monday against Jackson State.
UAPB coach George Ivory and his team are looking to end the season with three straight wins and a little revenge as they look to avenge a 67-63 conference-opening loss to the Delta Devils (6-24, 5-12) back on Jan. 3.
Neither the UAPB men nor women can qualify for the upcoming SWAC Tournament due to the violations stemming from a lack of institutional control that were announced in November.
