The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Golden Lions faced off against the cream of the crop last week, the Grambling State University Tigers. The Tigers handed the Golden Lions there worst loss of the season thus far, deafeating them by a final of 70-0. That loss pushed the Golden Lions’ losing streak to five games, and they just haven’t found their complete game since an early win over Alcorn State University.
After the weekend, Grambling is still undefeated in conference play, and they’ve only suffered a 10-point loss to the Arizona Wildcats. This could be the best team the SWAC has seen in a while, and they’re proving it week in and week out.
Golden Lions Head Coach Monte Coleman said before the game that this will most likely be the toughest team that they’ll see all season, so they knew what they were going up against. After one quarter the Golden Lions were still in striking distance, but after a four touchdown second quarter it was all over.
Grambling State’s Devante Kincade had a career day, going 23/26 for 457 yards and six touchdowns. Those six touchdowns were the first six offensive touchdowns scored for the Tigers, and they simply played pitch and catch all night long against the Golden Lions’ secondary.
On the other hand, the Tigers’ secondary had a big game of their own, holding Brandon Duncan down. Duncan completed 21/37 passes for 162 yards and two interceptions. One of those interceptions went the other way for a 22-yard pick six by Arkez Cooper.

Golden Lions’ all-time leading receiver Willie Young had a solid game, catching eight passes for 66 yards. However, the Tigers’ Chad Williams had a career day as well as he caught eight passes for 236 yards and three touchdowns.
To go along with the 457 passing yards, the Golden Lions gave up 286 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns.
This week, the Golden Lions welcome the Mississippi Valley State University Delta Devils. The Delta Devils currently have the worst record in the SWAC, as they haven’t won a game all season. Including this one, the Golden Lions have three games left to play.
