The bats stayed hot on Sunday for the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff as it completed a three-game sweep of Alcorn State.
The UAPB baseball team won 24-3 in seven innings in the series finale at Willie E. “Rat” McGowan Stadium in Lorman, Mississippi.
The Golden Lions (5-20, 3-3 SWAC) scored five runs in the first inning, six in the second inning, four in the third, two in the fourth and seven in the fifth before pulling their starters. This was their second run-rule victory of the weekend.
UAPB pitcher Brendan Hamlin (1-4) went the distance on the mound. Alcorn (4-17, 0-6) scored one run in the third inning and two in the fourth against the junior righthander.

This was the first series UAPB has won this season and the first weekend sweep by the Golden Lions since winning all four games of a non-conference series Feb. 23-25, 2024, against Arkansas Baptist. The last time UAPB swept a SWAC foe came May 6-7, 2023, at Alcorn.
UAPB clinched the series on Saturday in the lone game of the weekend to go nine innings.
The Golden Lions took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and led the rest of the game. UAPB tallied 14 hits, led by catcher Vinny Saumell’s three RBI on 3 of 5 hitting. Centerfielder Eli Gries-Smith hit 3 for 5 with two RBI and three runs.
Starting pitcher Brant Voth (1-1) pitched 6.1 innings. He allowed eight runs, five of them earned, on 11 hits and two walks with six strikeouts. Nate Monceaux earned his first save of the season by entering the game in the ninth with the tying run at the plate and recording the final two outs.
Alcorn starter Luke Sanders (0-2) allowed 10 runs, six of them earned, on eight hits and a walk in four innings.
