Several students from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff recently attended the Professional Agriculture Workers Conference in Tuskegee, Ala.
This annual event, founded and hosted by Tuskegee University, serves as a national forum for advancing agricultural research, education and innovation, especially for minority, underserved and small-scale farmers and U.S. Department of Agriculture and land-grant universities to promote equal opportunity and sustainable development in agriculture.
UAPB student presenters achieved top three distinctions in both graduate and undergraduate research poster and oral presentation competitions, according to a news release.
Students recognized for their achievements were: Kylan Ray, junior, agricultural business, third place in the undergraduate oral presentation category; Ram Babu Kurapati, doctorate student, aquaculture and fisheries, second place in the graduate oral presentation category; Humphrey Wanjala, Master of Science student, aquaculture and fisheries, first place in the graduate poster category; Morgan White, Master of Science student, agricultural regulations, third place in the graduate oral presentation category; Sonya Williams Reed, doctorate student, aquaculture and fisheries, second place in the graduate oral presentation category; and Rania Mary Cheriyan, freshman, biology, first place in the undergraduate poster category.
Five students ranked within the top 90th percentile at the conference, demonstrating resiliency, diligence and preparation, according to the release. They were Chase Campbell, junior, regulatory science/environmental biology; Kendrick Nelson, junior, agricultural business; Erika Jackson, senior, animal science; Jamarion Beasley, senior, agricultural engineering; and Che Rochford, Master of Science student, agricultural regulations.
The conference provided a platform for students to present their research projects and showcase their work.
