Five students from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff were selected to attend the 2016 InSight St. Louis Career Exploration in St. Louis, Missouri, recently.
Selected students and their majors were: Whitney Harris, business administration – marketing, St. Louis, Missouri; Mandie Haynes, business administration – marketing, Pine Bluff; Charese Simpson, biology, Pine Bluff; Brielle Taylor, accounting, Detroit, Michigan; and Ciarra Williams, accounting, Little Rock. The students were accompanied by Yulanda Riley, education counselor in the Office of Career Services.
InSight St. Louis is a non-profit organization dedicated to recruiting students with a minimum 3.0 GPA from Historically Black Colleges and Universities to the St. Louis region. All expenses are paid by the organization.
During the event, students interviewed with companies for summer internships and permanent careers, networked with chief executive officers, young professionals and explored the entertainment/cultural highlights of the St. Louis area.
According to Shirley Cherry, director of Career Services, InSight St. Louis began a partnership with her office in 2010. Each year, they visit the campus to conduct an information session to introduce the opportunity to students. The informational sessions are also open to alumni.
