The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff announced Saturday the promotion of defensive backs Coach Jeff Burrow to defensive coordinator.
Burrow will continue to coach the defensive backs in addition to his coordinator duties. He is the longest-tenured coach, having been hired in 2022, and the only holdover from former Head Coach Doc Gamble’s staff. He served as one of two co-defensive coordinators in his lone season under Gamble.
He now replaces David Calloway as defensive coordinator. Calloway, whom Head Coach Alonzo Hampton hired in 2023, departed UAPB last month to become the associate head coach and defensive coordinator at Missouri Valley College.
UAPB’s defense collected 11 interceptions last season, tied for the fourth-most in the SWAC. UAPB was one of two schools to return two interceptions for touchdowns last season along with Alabama State.
The Golden Lions’ passing defense ranked seventh in the SWAC, allowing 208.6 passing yards per game.
Burrow, a former University of Cincinnati defensive back, coached in the Mid-American Conference from 2011-2021, first at Kent State, then Buffalo. He was Kent State’s co-defensive coordinator in 2017.
Prior to his time in the MAC, he coached at Minnesota, Notre Dame, Jacksonville State, Marshall and Indiana State.
