The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men’s golf team won its second straight fall tournament this past weekend.
The Golden Lions won the SAS HBCU Invitational at the Prestonwood Country Club in Cary, N.C., held Friday through Sunday.
UAPB finished with a team score of +15, eight strokes better than second place, Florida A&M. Prairie View A&M finished third at +47, North Carolina Central fourth at +51 and Alabama State fifth at +63.
“I’m very proud of our team performance,” UAPB head coach Roger Totten said. “Winning two consecutive invitationals against some good programs says a lot about our program. As we approached the season, the players know that the key to success is believing in the program. I’m proud of the way our team played, especially Jonathan, who comes from a strong background in golf in his family but played with confidence.”
Jonathan Baumann, a freshman, won the individual title by finishing at even par. He shot a 67 in the first round, which he followed up with scores of 72 and 71.

Two other Golden Lions finished in the top three. Sophomore Jose Berenguel shot +3 and finished third, while sophomore Jules De Reu finished fourth at +5.
Sophomore Timur Alalin finished seventh at +7, while junior Angel Soria placed 24th at +36.
This was UAPB’s second tournament win this fall after winning the Thomas W. Dortch Jr. HBCU Golf Classic in Stone Mountain, Ga., last month.
The Golden Lions will return to the course next week for the Bridgestone HBCU Invitational in Suwanee, Ga., October 22-25.
