The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff is enrolling incoming freshmen in its LIONS (Learning Institute and Opportunities for New Students) program.
The LIONS program will be held July 5 to Aug. 5. There are 400 spaces and the deadline to apply is April 1. Students may be eligible to receive a scholarship for tuition, room and meals. A book award of up to $500 for the second summer session may also be available.
The LIONS program helps prepare students for college. Benefits include completion of six credits of English and algebra; academic tutoring and enrichment sessions for English and algebra courses; “College Knowledge” workshops and seminars to ensure a successful transition to college life; on-campus housing; meeting other freshman and UAPB faculty and staff; and developing supportive relationships and friendships.
“LIONS participants benefit greatly because they can complete their foundation courses during the program, and their experiences contribute to a more academically prepared, socially mature and knowledgeable first-year student,” said Carolyn Mills, LIONS program director.
LIONS is sponsored by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Post-secondary Education, Strengthening Institutions, Title III, Part B, Historically Black Colleges and Universities Program.
LIONS applications are available at www.uapb.edu/lionsprogram and should be accompanied by admission to UAPB, campus housing and a completed FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) for the summer session of the 2015-2016 academic year. Details: Carolyn Mills, 575-8362.
