UAPB Lady Lions lose to Louisiana-Monroe

Turnover woes continued for the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff women’s basketball team on Sunday.

UAPB lost 79-50 to Louisiana-Monroe at Fant-Ewing Coliseum in Monroe, La.

ULM (4-0) scored 31 points off 26 UAPB turnovers. This comes four days after the Lady Lions turned the ball over 35 times in a loss to Sam Houston State. UAPB was averaging 17.5 turnovers per game prior to these past two contests.

The Warhawks also dominated the offensive glass 17 rebounds to 2. UAPB (1-3) had 25 offensive rebounds in its lone victory this season at Memphis but has collected 25 total in the three games since.

The extra possessions ULM got from the turnovers and offensive rebounds saw the Warhawks attempt 62 shots to UAPB’s 38. The Lady Lions shot a season-high 45% from the field, made 5 of 13 3-point attempts and made 11 of 15 free throws, but giving ULM so many extra shots was too much to overcome.

ULM shot 42% from the field, made 12 3-pointers and made 15 of 24 free throws.

Junior guards Jailah Pelly and Indiya Bowen led UAPB with 11 points apiece, followed by Jasmine Davis with 10.

Redshirt junior ULM guard Jazmine Jackson led the Warhawks with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Ten other ULM players scored 4 points or more, though none more than 9.

The Lady Lions started the game well, leading 5-0 with 7:37 remaining in the first quarter. The Warhawks answered with a 14-0 run to take a lead they would never relinquish.
