The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff has joined #GivingTuesday, Nov. 29, with the objective of raising funds to benefit student scholarships.
#GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving in the U.S. to kick-off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their communities and to give back to the charities and causes they support, according to a news release.
“It is our goal to participate in a variety of philanthropic activities to benefit students attending UAPB,” said Margaret Martin-Hall, director of University Relations and Development. “Though every Tuesday is a recognized day for giving, Nov. 29, 2016, is a global day and we wanted to get our alumni and friends involved. Scholarships are a critical need at UAPB. We hope our alumni and friends will make an investment in our students on Giving Tuesday.”
In 2015, the fourth year of the movement, #GivingTuesday helped raise nearly $117 million online in the U.S. alone, according to the release.
“We have been incredibly inspired by the generosity in time, efforts and ideas that have brought our concept for a worldwide movement into reality,” Henry Timms, founder of #GivingTuesday and executive director of 92Y, said in the release. “As we embark on our fifth year of #GivingTuesday, we are encouraged by the early response from partners eager to continue making an impact in this global conversation.”
To join UAPB’s #GivingTuesday initiative, participants may give online at www.uapb.edu/givingtuesday, by phone at 870-575-8701, or by check or money order payable to UAPB Foundation Fund and mailed to the Office of Development, 1200 N. University Drive, Mail Slot 4981, Pine Bluff, AR 71601.
