First-time freshmen enrollment at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff has increased by 11.3%, with 761 enrolled. Overall student enrollment increased by 6.1%, with a student population at 2,821, according to 11th day figures released Sept. 15.
Last year, UAPB enrolled 684 new freshmen and 2,658 students overall, continuing the enrollment increase that began in 2014, according to a news release.
“UAPB is excited to welcome the class of 2020 onto our campus,” Chancellor Laurence B. Alexander said in the release. “Our faculty and staff are eager to help these students achieve limitless possibilities. Through our successful pre-freshman summer enrichment program, Student Success Center and faculty who teach with a personal touch, UAPB is delivering on its promise to be student-focused, success-driven and mission- based.”
Linda Okiror is vice chancellor for Enrollment Management and Student Success.
“The Division of Enrollment Management and Student Success believes strongly that UAPB’s continued growth demonstrates a recognition that becoming ‘A Part of the Pride’ is a serious choice to those seeking degree and career opportunities,” Okiror said.
This fall, UAPB welcomed students from every corner of the state, 23 states around the nation and 10 countries, including: Puerto Rico, Barbados, Canada, Ghana, Guatemala, Guyana, Jamaica, Mexico, Nepal, and Nigeria. International student enrollment also increased over 2015, from 20 to 23 as well as country of origin — from nine countries to 10.
“In addition to increased student enrollment, academic and campus improvements abound, including: Walmart partnership for Million Women Mentors in STEM fields, expansion of study abroad programs, groundbreaking of a residence hall annex (Friday, Sept. 16), addition of Chick-fil-A and We Proudly Serve Starbucks,” the release said.
