The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff men’s basketball team left its season-opening West Coast trip empty-handed.
UAPB lost 94-72 late Saturday to Loyola Marymount at Albert Gersten Pavilion in Los Angeles.
LMU (3-0) made 18 of 39 attempts from 3-point range, the most made 3-pointers UAPB has allowed since Kansas State made 21 on Dec. 1, 2024. LMU junior guard Rodney Brown scored a game-high 28 points after connecting on 8 of 13 shots, all from beyond the arc.
UAPB (0-3) senior forward Jaquan Scott led the Golden Lions with 27 points and 12 rebounds, both season highs. Four other Golden Lions scored in double digits, including freshman guard Milhan Charles with 13 points.
Typical starter Alex Mirhosseini did not play following his ejection from Thursday’s game at Portland.
UAPB shot 43.1 percent from the field and 11 of 11 at the free throw line. LMU made 16 of 28 at the line and shot 48.4 percent from the field.
The game was close throughout the first half, with UAPB leading 23-21 with 7:36 left in the half. LMU used a 10-2 run to retake the lead and led 38-31 at halftime. LMU shot 52.6 percent from 3-point range in the second half and outscored UAPB 56-41 over the final 20 minutes to pull away.
