UAPB English department receives award

The English department at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff recently received an award for its 40 years of service to Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society.

Kevin Sanders, assistant professor of English at UAPB, recently attended the national convention of Sigma Tau Delta at Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he accepted the award on behalf of UAPB. Sanders also attended several workshops on diversity in the class room, fund raising, networking and sponsorship.

Sigma Tau Delta was inaugurated at UAPB in the spring semester of 1975 when the first group of initiates was inducted into the Zeta Nu Chapter of the organization. The first sponsors were J. Marie Torrence, Carolyn Blakely, Alice Hines and Bettye Williams. The current sponsors are Sanders and Paul Lorenz.
