UAPB communications week to feature noted photojournalist

The Mass Communications Program at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff will host award-winning photojournalist Ronnie Hoof at 11 a.m. Friday, April 13, in the Hathaway-Howard Fine Arts building.

Hoof will be the keynote speaker during an assembly for the annual Communications Week, Monday through Friday, April 9-13.

He has been a photographer for ABC affiliate, WSB-TV, at Atlanta, Georgia, for more than 20 years and has also worked for many of the networks, including ABC, NBC and CNN.

During his visit, Hoof will share insight and advice from his 32 years behind the camera, according to a news release.

An Arkansas native, he is a graduate of Arkansas Tech University at Russellville. Hoof started his career at ABC affiliate, KATV Channel 7 at Little Rock.

Hoof is also the founder of a motivational series, “The Right Stuff,” and speaks to high school and college students, urging them to study and plan for their futures.

“Former President Bill Clinton endorsed the series as a meaningful effort to motivate America’s youth,” according to the release.

The UAPB Mass Communication Program will also host other activities during the week to highlight the impact of media on culture as well as the changes to the industry’s landscape as a result of technology.

Monday, April 9

9 -10 a.m. — High School Day. Students will tour the Mass Communications facilities and view the movie, “It’s Called Life,” produced by Dedric Jones, a recording artist and a career coach at Pine Bluff High School.

2-3 p.m. – Toni McCastle-Freeman, general manager of KUAP 89.7 will present a workshop titled “So What You Don’t Want to Do in Radio.”

Tuesday, April 10

9:30-10:45 a.m. — Madere Toure, web page developer, will present a workshop titled “Creative Online Portfolios.”

Wednesday, April 11

4-8 p.m. -– Second annual Mass Communications Film Festival, coordinated by Eva Belle, will be presented in the Caldwell Hall Auditorium.

Thursday, April 12

1- 2 p.m. — Nikita Reed, a public relations instructor at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, will present a workshop titled “Putting Your Brand To Work: Digital Content Strategy.”
