Bruce McGowan was appointed the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff interim vice chancellor for Academic Affairs, effective Aug. 1.

McGowan will remain in this position throughout the completion of the search for the university’s next chancellor, according to the announcement from the UAPB Office of the Chancellor.

“Dr. McGowan is a dynamic, transformative leader, innovator, and engaged contributor in higher education and the various communities he serves,” said Interim UAPB Chancellor Andrea Stewart. “His experience and qualifications, including his role as interim dean of the School of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Human Sciences and graduate programs coordinator in the School of Education, make him a confident choice for the interim vice chancellor for Academic Affairs at UAPB.”

Before joining UAPB, McGowan was the associate vice president at Rogers State University in Oklahoma, directing all operations for the Bartlesville branch campus. He was also the chief operating officer and associate vice president for Academic Affairs at Langston University’s Tulsa campus. Before his administrative work in Oklahoma, he served as associate dean of Academic Programming in the School of Agriculture and Applied Sciences at Alcorn State University.

McGowan expressed his dedication to serving the university community and advancing its academic agenda.

“I thank Chancellor Stewart for her guidance and trust during this transition,” he said.

McGowan’s professional record includes his successful implementation of national conferences and training programs, development of online degree programs, and securing federal, state and corporate funding of more than $30 million, according to the news release.

He is a member of several boards and national and local community and professional organizations. Additionally, McGowan is a military veteran with eight years of service as a first lieutenant in the United States Army Reserves.
