UAM to host Beef/Forage Field Day Oct. 27

Beef cattle producers will learn about optimum cow size, hay quality issues, cost of production, and an update on the beef cattle market during Beef/Forage Field Day Thursday, Oct. 27.

Registration begins at 4 p.m. with presentations at 5 p.m. at the Southeast Research and Extension Center at the University of Arkansas Monticello.

Jason Cater, assistant professor of animal science, and Greg Montgomery, program technician in animal science, will present information on the optimum size for beef cattle. Other programs will include a presentation by Paul Beck, professor of animal science at the Hope Research and Extension Center, on issues affecting hay quality; a breakdown of production costs and break-even prices in cattle production by C. Robert Stark, professor of agriculture economics; and an update on the beef cattle market by Travis Justice, director of commodity and regulatory affairs and chief economist for the Arkansas Farm Bureau.
