UAM takes second at ASU-Beebe debate tournament

The University of Arkansas at Monticello debate team finished second in the sweepstakes competition of the Abington Cup Collegiate Debate Tournament at Arkansas State University-Beebe.

Dylan Hargis of Warren won the individual novice debate championship at the event held Feb. 9-11. Hargis, an agriculture major, was also named the first place novice debate speaker, according to a news release.

Adeline Bowman of Berthoud, Colo., placed second in novice debate and was named the third place novice speaker.

Hunter Cook of Sheridan placed second in varsity debate and was the fourth place varsity speaker. Gabe McDorman of Sheridan placed second in team debate, was a semifinalist in the professional division and was the fourth place professional speaker. Nshyka Shelton of Monticello placed second in team debate.

Also participating for UAM were Kyle Hargis of Warren, McKenzie McClain of Monticello, Grace Nash of Mount Holly, Gabriel Bass of Pearcy, Natalie Craig of Sherwood, Abby Rounsaville of Mabelvale, and Zach Young of Wilmar.
