Arkansas State Police are continuing an investigation into a two-vehicle accident in Arkansas County near DeWitt Wednesday afternoon that involved a tractor-trailer rig and a pickup.
Trooper Shawn Mason said the accident was reported on U.S. 165, four miles north of DeWitt at about 1 p.m.
The preliminary report indicated the tractor-trailer, which was hauling rice, was northbound on the highway while the Ford pickup was traveling south in the northbound lane.
Mason said the driver of the tractor-trailer swerved in an effort to avoid the pickup, and the pickup also swerved back into the southbound lane, forcing the driver of the tractor-trailer to swerve into a ditch on the northbound side of the highway.
Names of the drivers of the two vehicles were not immediately available. Mason said the driver of the tractor-trailer was transported to a hospital for observation while the driver of the pickup was not injured.
Mason said Wednesday afternoon the accident was still under investigation and no citations had been issued as yet.
