A 43-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman were arrested following an investigation of reported attempts to smuggle contraband into the W.C. “Dub” Brassell Detention Center, the adult jail of Jefferson County.

The Jefferson County sheriff’s office said in a news release its investigators teamed with the Tri-County Drug Task Force to conduct the investigation into attempts by two individuals on more than one occasion. The sheriff’s office identified the suspects as Andrew Harris and Yasmine Dunlap, and both were taken into custody Thursday.

Bail was set at $10,000 secured each for Harris and Dunlap during a probable cause hearing Friday, according to the sheriff’s office. It was not reported what, exactly, the two are suspected of smuggling.

“This arrest, like others in the past, speaks to our commitment to the public in pursuing charges against those who threaten the security of our detention facilities,” Sheriff Lafayette Woods Jr. said. “We have a zero-tolerance policy against contraband, and we will seek the maximum penalty possible for those who choose to ignore it and violate the law. The JCSO remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity and professionalism in the operation of our detention center and will continue to take decisive action against any violations of our policies or the law.”
