Two dead after shooting at Sheridan Saturday

SHERIDAN — Gunshots at a Sheridan apartment complex Saturday night ended with a man dead at the scene, a woman fatally wounded and a second man released after questioning by local law enforcement officers.

Sheridan Police Department Assistant Chief Bob Williamson said officers were dispatched to 520 S. Rose St. No. 2 at Kirklin Heights Apartments at 9:50 p.m. Saturday in reference to a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers found three people inside the apartment: Ronnie Davis, 30, of Jefferson County; Laura Davis, 27, a resident of the apartment and Ronnie Davis’ estranged wife; and a second man whose name is not being released at this time.

Ronnie Davis was pronounced dead at the scene. Laura Davis was transported via Medflight to Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock, where she died Monday morning. The second man was taken into custody for questioning but later released.

“It appears that Ronnie Davis entered the apartment and shot Laura Davis and then got into a confrontation with the other male, who got the gun away from Ronnie Davis and then shot Mr. Davis, who was pronounced dead at the scene,” Williamson said.

The second man received minor injuries during the confrontation, Williamson said.

“The third party was brought in for questioning,” Williamson said. “We interviewed him, and he was cooperative. He was then released.”

Williamson said Laura Davis moved to Sheridan about a month ago and he did not know how long the couple had been estranged.

The Davises were reported to have two young children who were not present during the incident.

“They (the children) were staying with family at the time,” Williamson said.

Area law enforcement were on the scene collecting evidence well into the early morning hours of Sunday. The investigation is ongoing.

“Once we wrap up our investigation, we will forward the case to the prosecuting attorney’s office for review, but at this time no charges have been filed,” Williamson said.
