Two children were injured, one critically, in a boating accident just before noon Saturday near Lake Langhofer.
According to Major Lafayette Woods Jr. of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, an emergency call came in at 11:53 a.m. Saturday.
According to Woods, a boat belonging to Jimmy and Donna Brown was traveling south near Lake Langhofer, pulling two of the Browns’ grandchildren behind the boat on a water raft. According to Woods, the two children were 9 and 10 years old.
A second boat, driven by Richard Holland, passed near the Browns’ boat and Holland said that he thought his boat had gone over a wave but when he looked back, he saw the two children in the water.
Holland stopped to help the Browns pull the children from the water, and Donna Brown began administering CPR to one child, according to Woods.
After deputies arrived, both children were transported to Jefferson Regional Medical Center. One was later taken by helicopter to Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock, where the child was listed in critical condition.
Because the accident involved boats, the investigation will be conducted by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission.
