Two arrested in reported stabbing incident

A reported armed disturbance early Sunday morning resulted in the arrest of two people who allegedly stabbed each other.

During a court hearing Tuesday, Deputy Prosecutor Bryan Achorn said Jennifer McCoy, 36, and Donnell Carter, 40, were both found on the kitchen floor of a house at 1002 S. Apple St., “covered with blood, and the floor was covered with blood.”

Detective Sgt. Edna Butler reported that Carter received a wound to the right upper chest and McCoy a wound to the forearm that required surgery.

Achorn said McCoy initially told police an unknown black male had forced his way into the residence, demanded money, and stabbed her and Carter, but police were told by the couple’s child that “mommy and daddy had cut each other up.”

Butler reported that McCoy then said Carter had come home at 4:30 a.m., and the two had gotten into a verbal altercation that turned physical when Carter allegedly punched her in the face.

Achorn said McCoy told officers she grabbed a pair of scissors and stabbed Carter when he lunged at her, and then fell on top of her and grabbed her by the neck.

McCoy told police another person came to the house and pulled Carter off her, then called police, Achorn said.

“She said she didn’t know she was cut until she saw the blood on herself,” Achorn said.

Pine Bluff District Judge John Kearney set a $25,000 cash-only bond for Carter, who Achorn said has multiple felony convictions, and a $25,000 secured bond for McCoy, who has no convictions.

Kearney ruled prosecutors had probable cause to charge Carter with first-degree battery and McCoy with first-degree domestic battery, and told both of them to come back to court May 1.

The judge also ordered Carter to have no contact with McCoy, and McCoy to have no contact with Carter until the case is settled.
