Two arrested in connection with thefts from police vehicles

Two men were arrested Sunday in connection with the break-ins of law enforcement agency vehicles last week and a stolen rifle was located.

Eric Davis, 28, and Desmonde Curry, 20, were taken into custody at a house on Shamrock Drive after Arkansas State Police special agents and Pine Bluff Police officers served a search warrant, Deputy Prosecutor Maxie Kizer said during a court hearing for Davis and Curry Tuesday.

State Police Investigator Oscar Bullard reported that officers conducted interviews with confidential informants and learned that some of the stolen items could be located at 3618 Shamrock Drive.

Kizer said officers located an AR-15 rifle in a closet of the house, and Curry claimed he had bought the gun from a person he knew only as “Big B” for $300.

Both Davis and Curry denied any involvement in the break-ins and Kizer said an investigation is continuing.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $5,000 bond for Davis, who Kizer said had no prior convictions or pending charges, after ruling prosecutors had probable cause to charge him with theft by receiving.

Because Curry is currently on probation on charges that included aggravated robbery and theft of property, the judge set a $50,000 cash only bond, ruling prosecutors could also charge him with being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Both Davis and Curry said they would hire their own attorneys and were told to come back to court Feb. 28.
